My research interests lie where methods and substance intersect. Particularly in aging research, what we "see" is influenced to unknown and variable extents by birth cohort, "healthy participant" selection, and mortality. While longitudinal data are required to facilitate the unravelling of these interwoven effects, repeated measurement of cognitive and other variables is also modified by practice. Given the myriad of factors affecting the results of an individual study, confidence in any “finding” requires evidence of its repeatability. Creating opportunities to address these issues in the context of cutting edge research was a significant motivation for co-founding the IALSA network.
